Tub to Walk- Step in Shower Conversion Process

Tubcut Process Step 1: Bathtub cut for walk-in access

1. Bathtub cut for walk-in
access

Tubcut Process Step 2: Customizing walk-in insert to tub

2. Customizing walk-in insert
to tub

Our step in shower conversion begins by cutting & removing a section from the side of the homeowner's existing bathtub (1). Once the tubcut is made we then customize the insert to the tub by copying the tub’s sidewall profiles onto a blank acrylic insert (2). Next we cut & fit our insert onto the bathtub (4). Prior to sealing the insert onto the tub (4), we place our patented blocking system into the tub cavity (3). This blocking supports the bather’s weight when stepped on during step in shower entry & egress. Our tub to shower remodel process is completed in one day with less cost, disruption & mess!

While the foregoing narrative outlines the general process for our tub to shower conversion process, many of the foregoing steps described above apply to our walk-thru bathtub installation / remodel as well. And when compared to conventional bath tub to shower remodels, we estimate that with our Safeway Step installations, our NE Ohio clients spend about 80-90% LESS for their step inshowers & walk thru bathtubs. Bathtub to Walk-in Shower / Tub Conversion Specifications

Our finished step in shower opening is 24 inches wide, while walk-thru tub door models are 19 inches wide. Our tub cut outs extent 8-10 inches deep (down from the top of the tub rail) so that most step in heights are reduced to 5-7 inches for safe walk-in access. Both tubcut s also leave a 2-3” lip on the inside of the bathtub so that when covered with a shower curtain, the shower spray is kept inside your converted step in shower (or walk thru tub). Both inserts have a serrated (rough) stepping surface to avid slipping during entry & egress. Both conversion processes preclude the use of shower doors, which we’ve deem unsafe for seniors - for further discussion on shower doors see: Can we have a Shower Door Installed Instead of Using a Shower Curtain?
